Speaking to Gamereactor, the Sonic Team boss explained how Sega wanted to give Switch fans the “same experience” as gamers on other platforms, including “high-end” PCs.
The Hedgehog engine the game runs on has been updated several times over the years to make cross-platform development as easy as possible for Sonic Team, and while the Switch version doesn’t feature the same “high-end assets range” than these other systems (like PC), it’s still “very comparable”. Here is exactly what he had to say:
“Our artists are creating tons of content at very high levels, and if you have this incredible, incredible high-spec PC, that’s great. But we also want to make sure that people who play on the Nintendo Switch experience the same So we’re not necessarily using the same high-end assets, but the Hedgehog Engine is able to scale it down to a size where it’ll be very comparable on a Nintendo Switch, like on a high-end PC.
